The Transcordillera Trek — a full traverse of the Cordillera Real from Sorata to Pinaya — is packed with breathtaking scenery: glaciated peaks over 6,000m, passes with views over the Altiplano to the west and the tropical lowlands to the east, crystal-clear mountain lakes, and idyllic valleys with rushing streams and remote villages. If you don't have time for the whole route, you can hike a single section instead — for example Sorata to Laguna Glaciar (3 days), Paso Calzada to Laguna Khotia (5 days), Laguna Khotia to Botijllaca (4 days), or Botijllaca to Chairo (4 days). For just a single day out, head to Laguna Jurikhota and hike over the 5,300m Pico Austria pass to Laguna Chiarkhota.
