San Ignacio de Moxos: Heart of the Moxos culture

Mission town, onward to Rurrenabaque, Madidi and the Pampas

Besides the Chiquitania, the Llanos de Moxos is the second region where Jesuit missionaries built settlements in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Of the ten missions founded here, San Ignacio de Moxos is by far the best preserved. Its orchestras and choirs still actively perform Baroque and mestizo-Baroque music, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

From San Ignacio de Moxos you can continue overland to Rurrenabaque, and from there on into Madidi National Park or the Pampas nature reserve.
