Bolivia / Tiwanaku

3.000 years of history in Tiwanaku

From the 15th century BC to the 12th century AD, Tiwanaku was one of the dominant cultures of central South America, vanishing mysteriously only shortly before the Incas arrived. Visitors can explore the ruins of its ceremonial center — the Akapana pyramid, the Kalasasaya temple and the Gate of the Sun — along with a museum housing artifacts from the site.
