Medellín: City of eternal spring

Thanks to its climate and abundant greenery, Medellín is also known as the City of Eternal Spring. It's also famous as the home of artist Fernando Botero and his voluminous figures. The city gained a darker notoriety through the brutal guerrilla conflict and the drug cartel it gave rise to under Pablo Escobar.

From Medellín you can take a two-day trip to the lovely town of Santa Fé de Antioquia, or fly to Nuquí to watch humpback whales along the Pacific coast between July and November.
