Am 25. Mai 1809 wurde in Sucre zum ersten Mal in Südamerika der «Ruf nach Freiheit» laut. Am 6. August 1825 wurde Bolivien von Spanien unabhängig. Wegen seiner vielen weißen kolonialen und neoklassizistischen Gebäude wird Sucre auch die Weiße Stadt genannt. Interessante Museen sind das Franziskanerkloster La Recoleta, das ASUR-Museum für indigene Kunst und Kultur und die Casa de la Libertad.
On the 25th of May 1809 the call for freedom became known in Sucre for the first time in South America. On the 6th of August 1825 Bolivia finally became independent of Spain. Because of its many white colonial and neoclassic buildings Sucre is also called the white city. Interesting museums are the Franciscan monastery La Recoleta, the ASUR museum of indigenous culture and art and the Casa de la Libertad.
