When 30 Mio coffee trees were planted at the end of the 19th century, coffee became one of the most important exportation products of Columbia. The biggest area of coffee production is the so called triangle of coffee, a triangle upside down in the departments Quindio, Risaralda and Caldas. There are countless coffee plantations and colorful haciendas in green hills. Also in the typical Paisa villages, as in Filandia and Salento, houses are painted with many colors. From Salento we can go on a tour to Valle de Toche, hike in woods of wax palms and observe birds as hummingbirds or toucans.
Seit Ende des 19. Jhdts. 30 Mio Kaffeesträucher gepflanzt wurden, ist Kaffee eines der wichtigsten Exportprodukte Kolumbiens. Das größe Anbaugebiet ist das sogenannte Kaffeedreieck, ein auf dem Kopf stehendes Dreicek, das große Teile der Departments Quindio, Risaralda und Caldas umfasst. In den sanften Hügeln reihen sich unzählige Kaffeeplantagen aneinander und bezaubern traditionell bunt angestrichene Haciendas. Auch in typischen Paisa-Dörfern, wie z.B. in Filandia und Salento, haben die Häuser einen farbigen Anstrich. Von Salento aus lohnt sich die Fahrt ins Valle de Cocora oder ins Valle de Toche, wo man in Wachspalmenwäldern spazieren und heimische Vögel beobachten kann. Mit etwas Glück sieht man einen Tucan Andino.
