Popayan with its many churches and Easter processions which are named UNESCO heritage is Columbia’s catholic center. A visit to Popayan is worth it at any time. It was founded in 1537 and is called the White City due to nice, well preserved architecture of the 17th, 18th and 19th century. Spending more time in the region we can visit National Park Pucaré or the impressive underground tombs of Tierradentro.
Popayan ist mit seinen vielen Kirchen und Osterprozessionen, die zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe ernannt wurden, das katholische Zentrum Kolumbiens. Aber auch zu anderer Zeit lohnt sich ein Besuch in Popayan, das 1537 und somit noch vor Bogotá gegründet wurde und aufgrund seiner schönen, intakten Architektur in Weiß aus dem 17., 18. und 19. Jhdt. auch die Weiße Stadt genannt wird. Wer etwas Zeit mitbringt, kann in den Nationalpark Pucaré oder zu den eindrucksvollen Erdgräbern von Tierradentro fahren.
